One-third the size of traditional lilies, these border Lilies make spectacular additions to patio containers perennial borders. Asiatic Lilies are early-blooming, colorful, and vigorous. Colors range from the softest pastels to fiery reds and oranges that practically ignite in the sun. Blooms vary from simple open bowls to exquisite recurved flowers. Their straight stems and high bud count make them superb cut flowers. Asiatic lilies will add a hint of tropical warmth to your late spring garden.

Available in an array of colors from creamy white Asiatic lilies to nearly black varieties, the majority of these beautiful blooms span the sunny range of the colour spectrum. Glorious reds, warm yellows, hot pinks, soft peaches and multi-colored mixes all bring welcome pops of brightness and warmth to the early summer garden. Asiatic lilies are both the earliest bloomers and easiest to care for of the lily family. Simply provide these Dutch bulbs with well draining sandy or loamy soil and six to eight hours of sun.

Plant in a sunny to partly sunny location. At least six hours of sunlight is necessary for the Asiatic lily plant. Soil should be well-draining, which may require the addition of organic material worked in several inches deep. If you already have rich, organic soil in the area where you’ll be planting Asiatic lilies, make sure it is loose and well-draining to 6 to 8 inches deep. Bulbs of this lily should never sit in soggy soil. Work up sandy or clay soil by adding organic, well-composted materials. Peat moss, sand or straw mixed into the beds before planting Asiatic lilies improves drainage. Soil should drain well but hold moisture to nourish the growing lilies. Information about the Asiatic lily says they prefer soil to be slightly acidic as well.

Plant the bulbs three times as deep as the height of the bulb ,dig a hole about 6 inches deep and place the bulb inside with the flat part down and the pointed end up. Space the bulbs about 8 inches apart. Fill each hole with the soil and press it gently down. Water the ground thoroughly, then mulch lightly to retain moisture.
