Unless you're actively trying to cultivate a moss-filled mosquito hive, then you probably need to keep your pool clean and protected from the elements. Sure, you could try to do that with a roll of tinfoil and some dish soap. But don't you think it would be better to use products that actually work? The choice is yours.
