Good build and function.

It’s the best design to seal off the elements and has no parts that can fail or not seat right to make a good air tight seal for letting cold air in during the winter and cold out in the summer to keep the bill lower. All homes should be using this type. My prior hime I sold came with tis design also and was the first time I’ve seen it and I liked it so much I search for one for my new home that had the standard tyke all homes have and it leaked Ari like a sieve and made my basement so cold. This was the perfect fox do that and I’m very happy now to not be cold down stairs and waste my money on heating to compensate a bad design that is not fail proof as this is.

UPDATE: I needed to move the dryer outlet to the other side of the house, and when doing so I researched the issue a bit, as I was getting very close to the maximum length of duct allowed without a booster fan. So I got some Long-turn Dryer Duct Elbow from the Dryer-Ell to minimize loss, and saw some videos about this wall cap. Well, I noticed that they are not that efficient, as they have a lot of back-pressure. They work phenomenally well, but for my circuit length would have decreased efficiency so much, that it almost didn't open at all. This meant that a lot of lint stayed in the duct = risk of fire. So I got the Speedi-Products EX-WCHD 04 4-Inch Diameter Heavy Duty Wall Cap, Gray, a much more efficient product in terms of back-pressure. In my case, when I moved the Heartland to the other side of the house I noticed that it never fully opened, while the Speedi I installed afterwards is fully open and allows for a lot of air to move through the system, making easier on the dryer, and having the dryer work much faster. When I moved it I also noticed that the closing cap was full of lint, as it was in the duct about 1 foot before the was cap, even though I was cleaning the outside part very often. In conclusion, if you have a short exhaust length, the Heartland is good, just make it a habit to clean it often. For longer circuits I cannot recommend it at all now, after seeing how little it opens and how much inefficiency introduces in the entire system. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is a very good dryer vent. Heck, this is a very good vent! It has been functioning without a hitch for over a year now. This is a very nice design, and I like the fact that it is closed shut when the dryer is off. It is also easy to clean if you need to (just take the lid off and knock yourself out). Also, I don't know why, but I think it looks nice, nicer that those flappy ones, more "high-tech", but maybe it's just me... BUT, this is not without faults. First of all, it needs to be painted - why the heck don't they just make it white and then I will paint it other color if I need to? Weird... Other reviewers downgrade this issue, but unless you have some skills with that spray paint you'll end up with an ugly looking vent with drippings and such. And why do I have to spend 4 more dollars on a good can of paint when I shouldn't? But the main issue is that this vent comes without any tail piece or sleeve or anything to install it with. How much more would have cost a 1-foot aluminum pipe with a 4-inch plastic collar ?!? I will tell you how much is going to cost you: a few bucks - go to your local Home Depot, Lowes or other hardware store and buy the cheapest through-the-wall dryer vent and use the parts that come with that one (similar to this one: Lambro Industries 4' Wht Dryer Vent Hood 224Ws Dryer Hood Vents ). I have cedar wood shingles, and any installation without that pipe would have been pretty nasty unless I was willing to use 50 tubes of silicone to caulk all those cracks and wholes and crevices in my aging siding... But in the end it installed very nice and secure (it's build off of very solid plastic, which is nice, so it doesn't crack when tightening the screws during installation, or when prying off or replacing the lid during cleaning). Anyway, this is a very good vent but I feel forced to give it 4 stars. I just wish I didn't have to deal with the above issues. I also with that they made 6 or 8 inch ones as well cause I need them desperately...
