Gearwrench products offer an amazing value for the money. Quality and durability are their trademarks. I say this about everything they offer.

Great tools, cheesy case
By Seth from Haynesville on Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2018
I have hundreds of different Gear Wrench tools. All of them have been very good quality. My impact sockets all came in very good cases with mechanical latches and integral handles. They have survived for several years out of my truck toolbox. Not an easy life for plastic objects. This case will only do well when separated and put into a drawer style toolbox. It will not last (as-is) being carried around in a truck toolbox. The tools themselves will survive just fine. All you will have to worry about is losing them when this box fails. The tools themselves in this kit are of the usual high quality I have experienced with Gear Wrench products. The ratchets are all fine tooth, which I was not expecting. That's the only way to go in a ratchet. The case however, is a turd. It is designed to be taken apart to lay flat in a drawer style toolbox. That's about all it is good for. All that holds the 2 case halves together are 2 hollow plastic, molded in pins. These insert ~3/8" into cavities molded into the bottom half case hinge body. Upon arrival, one of the pins was broken completely off. The original and shipping packaging were not damaged. I decided to make my own repair/improvement rather than sending this back and getting another one. It would just be a matter of time before a new one broke in the same manner. My repair consisted of cutting a piece of 3/16" all thread to match the outside to outside length of the two hinges. I broke off the remaining damaged hinge pin to get it out of the way. Using a small butane torch, I heated one end of the all thread, and very lightly heated the solid end of the hinges just to soften them up. I put the two case halves together and then started poking the all thread through all 4 hinge halves from one end. It works great, but I shouldn't have to re-engineer a brand new product. By heating the plastic LIGHLTY, as well as heating the all thread, everything fit tight together. The plastic molds around the threads. If you drill out the holes there will be slack in everything. And you're going to need a super long drill bit to do it. The latches are the molded-in design and will not hold up well. That's another day. The other problem with the case is that there is too much clearance between the 2 halves. So when you lay the closed toolbox down, some tools from the upper half will come loose and be laying on the lower half when you open the case. That's an awesome way to lose tools. So I cut a piece of cardboard to fit the case and fill in the extra clearance. It was ~1/8" thick, and stressed the latches too much when the case was closed. So I hosed the cardboard down with PB blaster so it would soften up a bit, and to provide some corrosion protection to the tools. Worked great. Now I will have to come up with a solution for the latches that will ultimately fail on this case. Velcro straps from Amazon will be my first attempt. They work great on wrench rolls and ratchet straps, and I expect will be the perfect "fix" for this case when the latches give up the ghost.
