Intex Krystal Clear Cartridge Pool Filter Pump, 1500 GPH

Last year bought a 15' 48" intex pool. The stock pump is not powerful enough to get a good vacuum. So "upgraded" to 10" sand filter to be equally as underwhelmed. Also the sand filter down in the desert southwest is not adequate to filter out the fine dust that likes to blow in the pool. It just passes right thru and back into the pool. Not to mention frequent backwashing just to keep decent circulation in the pool. Got this in last night and just hooked it up. Long story short....don't waste your time with the smaller intex sand filters. Not enough power, fine particulates go right thru. This has WAY more power, with the added benefit of not having to backwash and waste a bunch of water. Also just vacuumed the pool to try out the suction and it is laughably better. Grab a couple plunger valves so you don't have to use the black block offs when you wash the filter out and you're good to go. You'll need the type B adapters since this uses the larger 1.5" hoses if upgrading from stock smaller setup. Also of note, this comes with 2 larger intex 1.5" hoses and the larger return aerator if you wanna use it. Update 7/29/23 Complete bearing failure. Just tore it down to the motor to get bearing numbers. To save you some time, they are 608rs bearings. Word of caution, the 3 long motor bolts are red loctited. You will break them/strip them if you don’t heat them up with a torch. Got to the bearings and tried using a bearing puller that was too big. Broke the fins on the motor shaft below the bearings. So be careful if you attempt this, totally possible but not fun. Back to my little sand filter that is still silent for now. 8/6/23 Update 3: contacted intex with my receipt from Amazon. Explained how loud the bearings had gotten. Sent me another entire unit (minus filter media) no questions asked. Hopefully this one lasts longer. Pleased with service from intex on this. Update 4: 3/23/24 replacement still works well, but the necessity to buy new filters every couple weeks defeats the purpose. Yes you can wash them out, but they get progressively worse each time until a wash gets you a half hour of full power before it’s clogged and not pushing any water thru. I am now back to using my sand filter full time and just using this to vacuum. This works great, keeps the cartridge filter swaps down, and seems to be the most efficient. If you don’t have a lot of fine dust/pollen stick with a larger intex sand filter. I’m still thinking I might upgrade to the 14 or 16” sand filter just for the more powerful pump on those.
