Exceptionally easy install, works like a charm
By Phil on Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2016
I could not speak more highly of this product. My old drain assembly was leaky, and I originally tried to replace it with a standard, but new, pop-up assembly. It took a while to get that installed semi-correctly, given the newer plastic designs for the pop-up rod, and it was a messy install, having had to rely on a lot of plumber's putty. Although I finally got it right and without leaks, the new design meant that the pop-up lever behind the faucet was angled in such a way that it was difficult to reach. This got frustrating after a few weeks, and what caused me to start thinking about a push-button drain instead. I happened to come across this Pfister and, given its price, figured I might as well give it a shot. It took me twice as long to disassemble the former drain assembly as it took to install this product, no joke. No plumber's putty, either. I'm not a professional plumber, and barely an amateur one, and this took me less than 5 minutes to install. The push button was smooth and it held the water beautifully, again, without putty. I have a sink with overflow, and this fit perfectly. One thing to note- most items I see that are brushed nickel have a softer tone than this one. This one is a bit brighter than most brushed nickel finishes I've seen, almost more golden under certain lighting. I don't mind it at all, but if the finish is an issue, then take that under consideration. It also doesn't have your standard metal basin ring- it's rubber, and the drain cap is rather oversized, so consider that for appearance purposes. If you're mainly interested in a practical, DIY product at a really good price, though, I strongly recommend this.

Does not pop back up right away when you press it in to close the drain
By whatithink on Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2016
It's works, mostly, though it protrudes from the bottom of the sink more than you'd think even when closed. So, if for some reason you need the bottom of the sink to be flush (eg cleaning something special), you can unscrew the top part and maybe find a $2 rubber plug that fits at the hardware store as a possible temporary fix, I guess (inconvenient). My main problem is that it doesn't fix the problem I got it for. Typically, when you press it in, there's a click, and then when you let go, there's a pop as it comes back up a little. This is the same for both closing or opening the drain. Now there's an old one in my sink, the exact same model but who knows how old since I didn't install it, that doesn't pop back up right away when you press it in to close the drain. Sometimes it might, especially if the water is not running, but usually not. It still works functionally in that it seals the sink from water escaping, but it is annoying, and can be confusing to someone with dementia. What will happen is that it will eventually pop up (with a big 'pop') randomly say 10 seconds, or 30 seconds later, and someone might think the drain has reopened for some reason, prompting them to press it in again to close it, but they're really opening the drain. Or sometimes it doesn't pop back up at all, so if someone wants to empty the sink and presses it, nothing happens. To fix it, you have to manually get your fingers under the edges to pull it up, then press it in again to open the drain. I tested it in all sorts of ways (taking it apart, etc), and figured it had something to do with the rubber seal. I thought maybe it was old and buying a new one would help, but the new one, this one from Amazon, has the exact same problem. So, I must assume it is a design issue. Just an FYI in case you see the same thing, that the replacement part here probably wont fix it.
