An inexpensive and excellent kamado grill
By Joe D. Jacobson on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2020
Assembly was a little time consuming, but straightforward and easy for one person without help. The grill itself seemed very well manufactured and the cart brings it up to a more useful height. I have been fueling the grill with chunks of hardwood. Perhaps because of the depth it is a little hard to get the small starter fire started than in a traditional Weber-style grill, but once it is started, it burns well and it burns as hot as I want it. The airflow controls work well. The air intake at the bottom operates a bit stiffly the first time in each cooking session and then moves just fine. It's easy to control the heat and the grill service is heavy cast iron. Everything I've cooked on it has come out just fine - better more consistently than with my old traditional grill. The only negative I have experienced so far is that if we have a heavy rain, the bottom ash pan gets filled with water. I am befuddled at how the water is getting in, as everything above is closed and seems tight enough to keep water out.

Steak Extraordinaire on 1st Cook
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2023
Out of the box, first thing I noticed was the scratched lid. Not just a little one, but a bunch of bad scratches, as shown in the photos. The assembly was smooth, with a couple questionable fittings and a blatantly noticeable screw just wouldn’t seat properly. This wasn’t a deal breaker though, but it is indicative of the product’s overall lack of quality and attention to detail. After following the seasoning instructions I thereby voided the return option by using the bbq. Afterwards, I prepared a hot coal meal consisting of both a thick New York steak, chicken breast, 2ears of corn and some grilled peppers. Temps rose quickly and remained constant. Let’s just say the steak was cooked to perfection, the chicken was a bit dry and the veggies were excellent. Next time I think I can do better on the chicken, using either a deflector or a half/coal config, as not to overcook the outer layer before the internal temperature reaches a desired temp. Temperature control is critical, but some smoke does leak between the lid and the base, while latched and when cooking, even though the temperature’s impact is likely minimal. Pre and post cleaning is a part of the cooking and maintenance keeping process. I find it helpful to use a leaf blower/vacuum. In conclusion, after the first use, I love this bbq, it has convection capabilities using the deflector, and despite the quasi crappy build and potential long tern rust issues, it's a solid grill cooker. It’s my first egg shaped grill, after having used a kettle grill for most of my outdoor cooking up until now. In time, aging issues may likely arise, but IMHO this baby can cook as good, if not better, than most other coal based bbq grills and way better than gas grills.
