Shake shake shake!

Postal dude dropped it off, I unpacked it and promptly undercut 4 doors. Worked like a dream. Quick cutting, easy to hold (no numb hands) and it it didn't get even a bit hot, warm maybe, but it worked perfectly. This set is a great value, I love these tools even tho the accessories are expensive. I hate it when I spend 10 to 15 bucks on a wood blade and promptly run it into a nail. So, with all the doodads this one comes with, the tool itself seems almost free. So, in the last couple of weeks I used one of these tools to sand trim, to sand some furniture (both metal and wood) for painting and refinishing, to undercut doors for new flooring and, the most wonderful thing, to scrape up old 12x12 peel and stick vinyl. I was hacking at those vinyl tiles with a chisel, with a Spackle knife, with a screwdriver and I even got my big outdoor ice scraper and I was resigning myself to hours and hours of hard labor to get that tile up. Then, hey!, that oscillating tool has a scraper. The bomb. I mean, boom. The tile just crumbles before the power of the tool. Still a lot of time on hands and knees but very little effort, really just guiding the tool and bagging up the sticky destroyed vinyl bits. There are many many uses for these tools, if you like to do handy person stuff around the house, I'm sure this tool shall pay back in time and quality of work many times over. Good value, good brand, nice warranty so I recommend it!

Sadly disappointed (I am accustomed to Porter Cable tools being excellent)

I am a woodworker by hobby and a short stint as a career, so I have quite of a bit of experience with tooling. This is the first Oscillating Multi Tool I have owned. I bought it because I am renovating my bathroom and have identified a few different niche situations traditional tools will not work; easily anyway. I will update after this weekend, but so far this is a complete fail. I started with 2 stars, but as I continued writing pros and cons, I realized it has failed for most of the specialized tasks I purchased the tool for, so changed to one star I thought this would work well in between 2x4's to cut nails. I found that both nails and screws were not possible, even with the blade designated metal. It also immediately dulled the blade, so it did not help at all. I also needed it to cut about an inch width through a 2x4 with PEX water plumbing coming through the center. It seemed perfect because it would allow me to get close without hitting the water pipe. Again, it failed. It started maybe the first 1/2" of depth just fine, but after that bogged to the point it would not cut. I made multiple cuts trying to get through, and was unsuccessful. Keep in mind this is a soft 2/4, where I was merely cutting 1" wide cut. I also tried to cut 1 1/2" PVC and it became so hot, it melted it. Again, this was in a location where this tool seemed to fit the bill as conventional tools would not work/fit. It seemed to be the answer... Pros -multiple speeds -quick change blades. -Like the depth adjustment -Seems like a lot of blades and options with nice case. I was quite excited when I opened it. Cons -Failed in cutting a single cut/small portion of a 2x4. I was attemtping a 1" wide cut, to go all the way through the 1 1/2" 2x4. I could not get through and had to resort to hand tools per location and close proximity to plumbing. -Failed to cut a nail that was in framing. I needed to remove a stud from an existing wall, so wanted to cut the nail at the intersection. It failed doing this, really not even denting it, so I cut it out with other tools and ground it down with a grinder. -Failed to cut a typical drywall screw under a tile counter, between hardibacker and plywood. So, I had to resort to other demo strategy. -Failed to cut PVC, nicely anyway. It melted it, and while it worked, I had to come back with another tool to clean it up. -Failed to cut 1/2" particle board. Again during demo, I needed to remove the cabinets/sinks. I tried to cut around the plumbing inside/at the back of the cabinet as so I could yank out the cabinet without removing plumbing connectors. It cut little, but very slow and with much effort. It's clear it would have taken hours. So, I had to grab my grinder, and had it cut in 5 minutes. I even went back to try and cut the remaining material in between pipe and where I cut with grinder. It was about 1" wide and 1/2" deep and still would not go all the way through. -Tool does get warm as others said, even with gloves. Probably Ok if you don't use it a long time. -Quite a bit of vibration at higher speeds. Fine for small niche needs, but I can't imagine using the sanding tool. -Would like some form of grip at the head of the tool. -seems to bog down for many of these uses to the point it seems useless. Usually you let the blade cut the wood, but given this cuts by oscillation, you have to apply a little pressure with this tool. It is a small gap between too little pressure with no cut, or more pressure and bogging it down. Once you get some depth it gets stuck and either cuts nothing, or bogs down. It's sad because I have considered one of these osculating tools for a long time, but could not justify cost until now per my renovation. But the more I type, the more I realize I will just likely return it. For the life of me, I don't understand why it gets such great reviews. I am no rookie with power tools. I can appreciate limitations and one should be reasonable, but this failed at every task that warranted the purchase. I imagine it will work fine for drywall, but I have myriad of other tools that will help me here like dremels, routers or the good old fashioned drywall saw.. No need to have a dedicated tool for drywall... I still do have to use it to cut door trim as so I can slide tile under it, so we will see if that works... My guess is not well... I am left scratching my head. How does it get great reviews?
