they’ll ship them all like this from now on
By DennisTPM on Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2014
This was shipped by Amazon it its original box only. When it arrived I saw a big gash on the box. Sure enough, when I opened it there was a major dent in the rim of the firebowl. I immediately called the manufacturer, because the instructions say to call them first before returning it to the retailer. Well they told me to go ahead and contact Amazon for a replacement. I did the return online and it came today. This time the box was placed inside another box with some paper stuffing to protect the inner box. When I opened the box there was no damage. Hopefully, they’ll ship them all like this from now on.This firepit works very well and puts out a lot of heat. The key to getting maximum heat is to make sure that you scatter the small rocks at the very bottom of the bowl. When you start laying the large rocks, do not set them too close to the gas ring. You don’t want to obstruct the holes at all. This will allow the flames to cascade around the larger rocks creating a high flame of 4 - 10 inches. If you let the rocks get too close to the holes the flames won’t be as high. The key is to create a circular tunnel of large rocks over the fire ring.Another bonus is the plastic cover that comes with it. The instructions say to keep it out of the rain and to put it away during rainy weather. Well, I’m too lazy to lug it into the garage every time it rains. When I put the cover on it I was surprised that it covered the whole thing, even the flame-shaped holes on the side. You definitely don’t need to move it inside when it’s raining once the cover is protecting it.I wasn’t keen on the aesthetics of a 20 lb. propane tank sitting out in the open so I also got this deck box to store it in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013BUW8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1I had to cut out a circle in the bottom so that the tank would fit since the tank is too tall. Now I have a nice looking storage box to house the tank and also to serve as a nice side table. There’s enough room inside to store the firepit cover, a cushion or two, or whatever. There’s a small gap between the bottom and the patio for the hose to fit into so that the hose threads up through the bottom, which you have cut out, and into the tank.Overall, an awesome fire pit. I used it on Thanksgiving night for several hours and didn’t see the gauge on my tank move very much.Update 9/2/15: Still loving this fire pit. I replaced the light weight l lava rocks with regular red lava rocks from my local rock/masonry supplier. Very cheap way to go and the rocks will last forever unlike the ones that are supplied. I'm also adding a picture of the Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon trash can lid which I use to provide a solid rain cover. It costs only $16 right now for the black one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005KD0U16/ref=mobile_oh_details_?ie=UTF8&psc=1#

firepit

Why a 3 star rating? If you open the valve on the 20lb propane tank, sometimes it gets vapor lock and you will not be able to adjust the flame size. You have to open very slowly. Just a pain in the butt.

Just like a wood campfire without the smoke!

As others have mentioned, I am a wood campfire kind of guy and in the past I would have never considered one of these. That being said, I was complaining to my buddy that I was certain that the county I hunt in would enact a burn ban just days before bow season was to begin. He raved about the Firebowl and said he was certain that I would appreciate it in place of a wood campfire. I was a bit skeptical but the thought of hunting and camping for 2-3 days without a campfire was depressing and took away some of excitement associated with opening weekend. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the largest unit and it was delivered quickly and intact just two days before the season was to start. Sure enough, the county issued the burn ban that I feared so I was relieved that I had made my purchase. Reading the fine print on the burn ban, personal propane BBQ's were allowed. Between that and reading other reviews on how this gets around campfire bans in the mountains, I figured I was within the law.The first night of the hunt I started the Firebowl and just as my friend had said, the Firebowl produced a beautiful flame, provided heat for warmth and cooking dinner with no issues. I have run the unit on low for several hunts for a total of 6 hours or so with no noticeable weight change in my propane tank so it will be easy on the fuel I expect. Another big plus is there is no smoke which is a big deal to me being mindful of odors. And of course, when you turn it off, it's off and cools down quickly. I place my Firebowl in the fire ring normally reserved for a wood campfire as shown in the picture above. I probably won't go back to a wooden fire after this experience. I highly recommend the Firebowl.

Item was in good condition, new and unused. It works great , we love the heat it produces. Light enough to move around. The description said only the outside of the box was damaged. But, it had obviously been taken out of the box. The styrofoam packing material was broken and dusty.
Very satisfied with this fire bowl

First off, I must have gotten lucky because I scored this thing for $125, and not the $215 I originally saw it priced at a month prior when I first considered such an item for going camping with. As of now, its $184, so my advice is to wait it out and check back often. I was ready to pull the trigger on it at that moment anyway for an upcoming camping trip, and when I saw the super low price I didn't hesitate.I am tired of campsites making you buy their (expensive) wood and not allowing you to bring your own, and I'm tired of all the smoke associated with a typical campfire too. Plus I can easily set it up in the backyard on a nice night and we can all chill out around it. This firebowl is well made and very sturdy. It came completely assembled and all I had to do was add the rocks, connect a tank of propane, and light it up. The firebowl gave off a nice yellow flame, mimicking that of a typical slow burning campfire, which is what I wanted. Turing up the gas control knob to high made the fire bigger, but it still kept its campfire charm. I like that it came with a 10' hose, as several others I was considering did not come with a hose at all, or just a shorty hose at best. I've used it a few times now and so far, so good, no issues or complaints. The wife likes not smelling like smoke and campfire at the end of the night when we retire to our bed in the trailer, and I conquer with her on that too. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

This propane fire pit looks great. The size is perfect, and set up is easy. Basically take it out of the box, put the lava rocks in it, hook up the gas and light it up. My one complaint is that there is very little flame adjustment. You can hardly tell a difference between low and high, so don’t expect a large fire at all. Once the lava rocks heat up (takes a few minutes), the fire pit does radiate a decent amount of heat if you’re sitting fairly close to it.
Perfect when you want a fire, but are not allowed to build a camp fire where fire danger is high.

This is the second one we have purchased, and this is for a Christmas gift. They are nice and large for creating a camp fire when you don't have the means to make a camp fire, or you're in an area where camp fires are not allowed due to fire danger/ these propane fire pits are generally allowed where camp fires are not allowed. (check in your local area to find out) We use ours for get togethers with friends when fires are not allowed in our mountains during fire season- these are allowed in our area, so it makes it perfect for us, and it makes a nice large fire. Also we take it to Az. when we head south for the winter, and we use this in our R.V. park where wood access is non existent. It makes a great fire where we can sit around in lawn chairs with a drink in hand and it is darn near as good as a fire. Very easy to light, and gives some source of heat- not much if your looking to have this to keep warm. It is more for looks, yet you can also roast hot dogs, and marshmellows if you want to use it for this. Easy to use in your yard as well. Hope this helps.

Great for small deck area and backyards. I love a good fire pit vibe. I usually go for the wood fire pit but we now have a smaller back deck area and this is perfect. Easy to set up. It came with a nozzle for the propane tank, the heating rocks for the fire, and a top cover for the fire pit when not in use.We set it up the first day and started burning right away. We went to the Home Depot for a propane tank for $60 and lit the fire without any problems. Highly recommend. It’s safe, easy to use, and perfect for any area. Smokeless and stylish. Full fire with high flames, very cozy. Thanks, MzTU

Took it camping. A little big, but that’s what I wanted. Setup was fast, so was packing up. Cooled down fast. Has definitely got me to switch from wood burning fire pits.

This was a gift for my son's home. I also have one and they work great, especially for camping and there is burn band for wood/charcoal fires. Can still do s'mores.
