Great little mower
By Falcon1620 on Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2019
I know your probably looking around for a new mower, and your thinking... Is this one really worth it? Does it cut well? Is it really easier? Yes, this mower is super light weight, I can push it around with one hand, you won't even miss the self propelled feature of the heavy gas mower. Its battery life is awesome, I had a really dense thick overgrown yard, and it did bog a little, but it cut it nicely in two passes, no sweat. My neighbors mower died, and she asked to borrow mine, so I put it to the test over there after I finished up, and it handled the seeding grass easily as well in the front yard. She said she didn't even hear me out front cutting it, and asked to borrow it for the back. She wanted the link after she was done, so I think its a winner for me and my neighbor as well. Can't beat the price. I figured I'd pick up a Snapper (one of my favorites) HicVac if I didn't like this one, but to be honest, this one really won me over these few times I've used it so far. I'd say that it does a really super job and its sooo easy. I mean you just pop the battery in and go. All I can say is that two people have asked me about it, and two people now have asked for the link to pick one up after giving it a go. If your considering a cheep gas powered mower, and your on the fence about this electric one, I'd recommend you give this a go, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to cut and maneuver. I found that even with the plastic deck, and wheels out front, its been much easier to fit into some of the tight spaces in my yard. The 16" cutting deck is a little smaller but I have not really had any complaints about it, it fits into the tight areas, and takes a couple of passes more to finish, but it has not hindered mowing time turning around this little lightweight machine. I don't miss the self propelled feature because you can push this along with one hand. The wheels on here are just as sturdy as any other mower and they held up well in my backyard which tends to eat wheels up pretty well. These have not bent or sheered off, although I did work to smooth it out back there this spring haha. I don't really have a huge issue with the gas powered mowers, and I can work on small engines pretty well, I'm no expert but I could keep them running well. This is nice, the benefits are there are no air filters to replace, no stuck oil plug on the bottom that's been crusted in, no tipping it over to empty out the oil every season, and no spilling gas everywhere when filling it up, and finally no crusty carbs to dismantle and clean when you forget to store it for the season. Just pop the battery in and go. The little safety start took some getting used to, but this one fires right up once you get used to pushing the button, and then pulling on the lever... It does not do anything if you have the lever pulled at all when you push the button. It took a little muscle memory. My neighbors electric was similar so she had no issue with it, my friend had the same muscle memory and had to adjust to that like I did. It adjusts cutting speed based on how much grass its chopping and what kind of load it has, but is cuts really evenly and does a good job. The grass catcher is smaller, but I found that its easier to empty. I used to wrangle with the big full grass catcher and get lazy and do one trash bag per full catcher. This one I can fill the bag up because I don't have to wrangle with it. I found that it don't need to be emptied too often, so its not annoying. You may like that, so if you like to use it, just consider its smaller size. I found that it handles a good amount of grass when I used it but it did need emptying a couple of extra times. I ordered a mulching adapter, but found that it didn't quite fit, so I just leave it off. it works fine, and you clan out the little grass flap when your done. With or without the catcher on it, it is easy to push, and doesn't get heavy. I thought that it was a little pricey when first shopping around, but after seeing the build quality of some of the gas powered ones, that are about this price range or lower, this seamed like a good deal. After using it though, no way would I go back to those. Its a good value, especially if you have a SnowJoe and have a couple of these batteries on had. After comparing the cost though, in terms of time and maintenance, the Lithium Ion batteries and chargers are pretty good in terms of value for the cost of gas, oil, air filters, and carb cleaning, adjustments, and storage those little things add up, so your not spending much more and your not taking it in or doing it in the garage yourself. Even if you replace them every once in a while its no to shabby. After using this little mower for a bit though, I am sold on the cordless mower, I though eh I buy a gas powered mower here if I need to, nope this has been great. I would not go back to the gas powered mowers, totally sold on it. I am surprised because I bought this to give it a shot, and see if these were any good, and I ended up really liking it.

Lasted 2.5 Years
By April on Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2022
This mower never performed very well, the battery shut itself off a lot of the grass was damp, I live in central Florida so my grass is almost always damp in summer. I had to time cutting my grass just right and sometimes skip because it rains so much here in the summer. I purchased a second battery to be able to mow my entire lawn because it couldn't quite finish the job with one battery. It took over an hour with this thing. I'm speaking in past tense because it's currently dead. Coming from a self propelled gas mower, mowing my lawn used to take maybe 30 minutes. So I doubled my time spent mowing with this. And then it died completely after 2.5 years. So... Long enough that the 2 year warranty was void. I didn't use it a ton, mostly in the summer since I live in Florida. It's been a month or more since I've mowed my lawn due to this mower just refusing to start all of a sudden. So I basically paid about $400 for 2.5 years of use with this thing. My last gas mower lasted me 13 years. I paid a lot for this mower, the price seems to have gone down a bit... But at the current price even, I can buy a solid gas mower. I THOUGHT I was doing something good for the environment. But was I really? Because the amount of fossil fuels it takes to build one of these, which takes place in China, isn't low. I thought it would cut costs as well, but my lawn is not large so I really didn't see a difference in cost at all. Just added time and frustration. I bought this in October of 2019 and wanted to wait to write a review to see what the durability of one of these was. Well... For me, 2.5 years. I don't think buying one of these really benefited the environment much, even though I'd hoped it would- the amount of fossil fuels burned in me cutting my small lawn with a gas mower wasn't very high, especially if it only lasts 2.5 years. I also remember in school (I have a degree in environmental science) that it takes more fossil fuels to create electric powered mowers and cars but the emissions overall are less because you're not burning fossil fuels to power it. If it lasts, that is. I don't know the exact math on that, emissions for creating an electric mower vs gas. Weighing my costs and frustrations with emissions and considering with the chute I purchased and the extra battery, I spent over $400 at the time of purchase for this (again, it seems the cost of this mower went down a little bit, but the extra batteries aren't cheap) this didn't save me any money and added a lot of frustration. And now I have to buy another lawnmower, and unfortunately I'm going with gas this time. I know those hold up. The customer service representative I spoke to at the "call an authorized Snow Joe Dealer" was basically just a salesperson based out of China. He essentially confirmed what I thought the problem was when I told him my batteries are fine and the issue seems like it's the cable, by saying "well yes, the cable is one of our most defective parts". Um, ok. I told him I wouldn't be purchasing any more SunJoe or Snow Joe parts and I'm very unhappy and he just pushed me to buy things and gave me a "verbal offer of 50 percent off", and I hung up. I'm very unhappy with the longevity of this product and wanted to write an honest review stating such.
