Gardening with a passion in winter.
By Sharon L. on Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2015
I have raised a garden for many years and always hated it when the cold weather would kill off my plants. So after reading the many reviews, I decided to order the AeroGarden. It was easily put together following the instructions. I liked the way the pods fit in the AreoGarden snuggly and the clear caps fit very well. In all, the garden is put together very nicely and the hood is very well built. The controls are very simple because all you have to do is push a button for what you're growing. When nutrient/water is needed, add then hit the reset button. I popped in the seed pods on December 24th and was amazed when in just a few days everything had sprouted. The dill is outgrowing all of the other plants and it looks as if it grows about 1 inch per day. After 3 1/2 weeks, I have enough dill to can at least 10 jars of pickles. If it keeps growing at the rate it has then I won't have any problems having all the dill for my pickles that I need. The basil, parsley, and chives is very healthy but is a slower growing plant. I've already enjoyed some of the chives on a baked potato and I can't even miss any on the plant being as it grows so fast. The mint is about 1/4 of an inch and is very fragile looking compared to the other plants. I am hoping that it will overcome the fragile state it's in and surprise me overnight. I watched the cilantro very carefully after having read all of the reviews about it not coming up. The pod started growing little furry hair on top of it within a few days so I got a pair of tweezers and pulled the hair off. After about 4 days the cilantro started to come up and has now caught up in height with the basil and parsley. The leaves now look like that of cilantro and it's a very healthy plant. I've not seen any sign of mold or any more furry hair growing so far. The add nutrient or water lights have come on letting me know it's time to add and by watching the calendar, it was right on time. It didn't take me long to realize that one AreoGarden wasn't enough for me, so I have since ordered another one and got it 1/18/14. I started it with lettuce of 5 different varieties. I'll post again after I see how that turns out. I will say this, two gardens aren't enough for me and I plan to own at least 3 more so I can have tomatoes, peppers, and one for new cuttings and transplanting to my outside garden. Plants are high when you have to buy them and this will save money in the long run. It won't take long before the AreoGardens pay for themselves. Update as of 1/22/2015. The mint is finally starting to grow and is about 1 1/4" in height. Dill is 7" in height, parsley 3" by now, basil & cilantro 4", chives are sparse but about 5". I received my second AreoGarden on 01/18/2015 and started lettuce that same day. Five days later I have four pods already sprouted and about 1/4" up in height. The seed package said that it would take 10 - 14 days to come up, so the AreoGarden cut the sprouting time way down. Update 02/13/2015 I planted my second AreoGarden on 01/18/2015 with different types of lettuce, romaine, gourmet blend, and prize head in the replacement pods I purchased seperately. The lettuce is 7 1/2 inches tall with leaves wider than my hand. The lettuce is growing faster than any I've ever planted in my outside garden. The leaves are beautiful, firm and a nice color. I could have a nice salad now but want to wait until then are that their tallest before I start taking some cuttings. The herb garden that has been growing since Christmas Eve has reached the full height of the garden. I have to take cuttings a couple of times a week because they are growing so fast. I have found one thing about the herbs that would help in the long run. The seeds should have been pushed further down into the pod so they can have a stronger stem when they come up. I love the fresh herbs but I've had to dehydrate a lot of them because they were so bushy. When they are finished growing I will plant some dwarf cherry tomatoes in their place and I plan to investigate the idea of pickling cucumbers in the AreoGarden for salads. I will update as time goes by with the growing process in both Gardens.

Great garden, wish better quality

Bought that as present for my 8 old daughter and she love it. It so easy to grow. Actually there almost nothing to do: fill water every week or two and add nutrient every two weeks. I was wondering whether it is quiet. YES it is, actually quieter than my laptop fan. Minus 1 start for quality: - First one I've received had not flat top (with holes). - Light holder is quite weak and easy to break. - Still cannot figure out how to reset timer there to make light off at night (not at day as it is now). Tried what is written on FAQ but it does not work. Light is so bright I had to make so called "light booster" (30$ on amazon). Just salvaged box it came in to make strips and wrapped into aluminium foil (see picture). Then hanged then on top with thermo glue and copper wires (instead paper clips + barbecue sticks can be used). Now I can even sleep with it on . As I expected all herbs sprouted except chive (read in many feedbacks it does not usually sprout) but rest herbs are awesome and we started harvest dill and basil in 1.5 month (see picture). Even we got to cut few sprouted basil. Instead chives we just put another dill there after all. Some reported fungus had grown on seeds. We got it too but seeds sprouted and we got healthy herbs. My kid just removed fungus, I doubt that helped but easy to try. We do use filtered water just to make sure that nothing comes from water (chlorine, fluoride...) What I do not like a price for kits. Think I will get some seeds and sponge for cones somewhere cheaper than 2$ per cone (BTW there is sponge in plastic cones not soil as I thought before). Plastic cones can be reused. I believe sponge can be reused too after cleaning and sterilization (I did sterilize sponge after chives died) . BTW taste of fresh herbs is awesome. Update: Just checked Nitrate level in basilic with strips (check picture). WoW. I'm drinking fertilizers from bottle. BE AWARE. WHAT YOU GROWN IS NOT "ORGANIC" AS YOU THINK. Still like gadget but now will grow flowers or some plants as education.
