Disappointing Customer Service and product life
By Angela on Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2022
I seldom write reviews, but this product has annoyed me to the point I am taking the time to do so. I bought this alarm in November last year to replace one that had malfunctioned. I have about 12 alarms in my home. This one malfunctioned in the middle of the night last week and triggered the other alarms in my home. I actually took the time to read the online user guides to see why it stopped working. There was a customer service number, so I took the time to call. The lady, "Dot" who answered the phone was one of the more rude customer service representatives I've ever spoken with. I explained what had happened and she interrupted me to tell me that the battery powered unit would not cause my other units to sound an alarm. I explained to her that she was wrong because the others in my home went were triggered. She again interrupted me, "ma'am, you are wrong they do not do that." So, i put the battery in the one i was holding, with her on the phone, and pushed the test button. With her on the phone, it triggered all of my units. She told me that she only heard the one. I read her what was on the website for their product, because now i'm annoyed... Wire-Free Interconnect triggers each connected alarm in the home to sound once smoke is detected, which can provide more time to react. The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (NFPA 72) has required smoke alarms in new homes to be interconnected since 1989, which traditionally involves running wiring to each alarm. Older and remodeled homes can now be updated to current standards without having to run any wiring to each alarm. Existing networks of interconnected alarms can be expanded with use of a single AC Wire-Free Alarm and additional compatible DC Wire-Free alarms. she again told me that was incorrect. after asking to speak to a supervisor, the call was "disconnected". I have these throughout my home and am now questioning whether I can remove them all and install something else. They seem to need replacing every 3 years, which seems like a short life. that and their customer service folks. wow!
