The best thing to ever happen to track lighting.
By Allen Müller on Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2017
It seems there's a lot of uninformed / unreasonable reviews of this excellent product. Maybe a more informed review will help? I've gutted entire spaces and replaced existing built-in lighting with various types of LED setups, I've set up several track light systems over the years - and I've even designed and fabricated my own light fixtures for HUE products. The problems I have with most LED lighting are: integrated LED (lame idea for a developing tech), poor dimming range, flickering, noise, horrible color (the entire LED industry creates "2700ºK" lamps that appear to my eyes to be well above 3000ºK) and terrible color rendering. Despite all this, I do everything I can to find ways to implement LED. Philips HUE has gradually allowed me to do more and more of what I really want to do with lighting. HUE bulbs really are the best thing to ever happen to high efficiency lighting, and this particular bulb has really opened up the possiblities for creating beautiful spaces - and in many cases saving lots of time and money in the process, enough to far offset the seemingly high cost of these bulbs. Pros: Dimming control is better than anything out there - plus you can control each lamp individually. This is the single best factor about using these bulbs on a track system! This and being able to make the light as warm or cool as you want (warmer than the other HUE GU10 that only does a limited white light range) - which leads me to color range: Color control is not really about all the fruity rainbow colors. What it's REALLY about is the capability to make the light as warm as a candle - much warmer than even 2300ºK - or as white as daylight, or cold as a laboratory. You might want to play some color programs or other fun stuff, but the other HUE products are more suited to the more intense effects you can get from other apps. So, yeah you might not get neon green or black light purple from these GU10 HUE bulbs - but if you need those colors, you should order custom neon and buy some blacklights. CRI is excellent - when you have the color temp at a balanced white. Of course, it's going to drop off as you move away from balanced whites. Some reviews have stated otherwise, but that's assenine. Color rendering going askew is kind of the point of changing the hue of the light around you. Cons: Limited track head compatibility: if anyone finds a better suited track head for this bulb let me know. So far, the only moderately suitable find has been Lithonia Lighting's LTHCYLD - a deep frosted glass cylinder track head with brushed stainless fixture base. (see provided photo) It's important to note that this HUE GU10 bulb is significantly longer than other GU10 bulbs, (see provided photo) and it will not fit the clip on gimbal rings found on many GU10 track heads. I'm on the lookout, but the aforementioned Lithonia Lighting track head is the only compatible one I've found so far. I need to find some sort of high tack bulb grip that is compatible to the smaller face of this bulb, and has a handle suitable for manipulating the bulb so that it can be attached to track heads with ease. Without it, installation is very tedious in the least. I don't think a suction cup will work, as the frosting on the lens is on the outside. (see provided photo) Still, I love this bulb and am very excited to see what all I can do with them. unlisted measurements you may find useful: length of bulb: Hue GU10 white and color bulb is 2.5625" (minus the mounting posts) width of bulb face: 1.9375" width of lens: 1.3125" (length of standard halogen GU10, minus mounting posts is 1.875")

Unable to Display Green Color - DO NOT BUY
By Jon A Drake on Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2019
Upon installing, I discovered that any shade of green does not display correctly. This was consistent across all 8 bulbs I purchased. Pure green simply does not exist. Cyan looks almost white. I made sure the bulbs had the most recent update. I would compare colors to an A19 bulb next to the GU-10s and could not get any of the colors to match exactly, even though they were all Generation 3 bulbs. I just got off the phone with Hue support and was told that my 3rd Generation Hue GU-10 bulbs do not have "richer colors" and will not display the color green. I was told that it was a size issue which was a complete lie. I have had competitors' GU-10 bulbs from Mi-Lite with the exact same form factor display green and all shades perfectly fine. This is an expensive bulb that does not perform as it should. Do not waste your money, when there are alternative bulbs in the market that work as designed.
