Pleasantly Surprised
By Wayne's Geek Shop on Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2019
I have used battery powered tools for several years. The battery has always been the weak link.. However, the difference from 10 years ago to now is nothing short of amazing. I understand that changing to a brushless motor design has made more efficient use of the available battery power but this mower is just plain better in 'almost' every way. I mowed my "average sized" yard on one 4.0 AH battery. I had purchased a 5.0 AH 'after market' battery just in case but I doubt I will ever need more than one to mow the entire lawn. Pluses & Minuses Plus - More than adequate power to mow the lawn - QUIET! This is a joy to operate as far as noise goes. It isn't any more noisy than a large fan. - No gas, no oil, and vertical storage. When I'm done mowing I can stand this thing on its backside and clean the underside of the deck with a garden hose. Don't have to worry about gas or oil leaking out. I leave it standing outside for an hour or so while it dries. Then back into the garden shed.. ready for the next time out. - Choice of bag, mulch, or side discharge. The first couple of times mowing with it, I'm using the bag. I'm thinking that maybe every 3rd to 5th time I mow, I'll do the mulching mode but by bagging frequently, I don't get the buildup of dead grass, requiring power raking, etc. And, living in south Texas, we get to mow pretty much all year long. Minuses - I don't have very many. I had read reviews by folks that said the battery was nearly impossible to get out once inserted. I can assure you that the mower I received does NOT have that issue. I'm guessing Greenworks have resolved the issue somewhere along the way. - It seems like, when the unit is standing vertically, Greenworks may have thought the top or front edge of the deck needed a handle. There are finger grooves formed in the front edge molding.. but it isn't deep enough to actually get a grip on. Maybe they just wanted a scalloped front edge appearance and it isn't an attempt at a handle..? I don't know but it isn't really necessary either way. That's about it.. That's all I can say that might be considered a negative. UNRELATED TO GREENWORKS - The rest of this review is aimed squarely at Amazon. NOT Greenworks. I ordered this mower on a Sunday afternoon. It was listed as 'Prime' and I am a Prime members. I did not receive the mower until Friday.. FIVE working days after I ordered it. When I finally did receive it, the box was torn open on one end. I wasn't here when it was delivered by UPS so I couldn't reject it or inspect it before accepting it. When I got the box open, all of the miscellaneous parts (Charger, one battery, and small pack of hardware) were loose and bouncing around inside the box. The individual small boxes these items had started out in were crushed and useless. There was cosmetic damage to the front of the motor housing and the side of the one battery was pretty scratched up. Also small rips in the material that makes up the bag. None of this impaired the machines ability to do what it was designed to do. Also, in addition to the parts bouncing around inside the box, apparently the 2.5 AH battery that was supposed to come with it, was not there. I tried the "return or replace parts" feature with Amazon but was directed to contact Greenworks directly. I filled out their contact form on-line but have yet to hear anything back from them. Hopefully they take customer service more seriously than this in the future. Overall I am quite happy with the mower and how it works. We'll see how long it will last with all the plastic it uses in lieu of quality metal parts.. time will tell.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - IT'S A NIGHTMARE

UPDATING ON 5-3-2020. DO NOT BUY THIS MOWER!. The battery doesn't last but about 15 minutes. It takes me several days just to cut my lawn because I get a small section done and then the battery has to charge again for more than an hour. I am not spending another 100 or so for a second battery, but even two batteries still wouldn't be good enough. This lawnmower is a nightmare. I spent about $350 for it and I couldn't resell it in good conscience. I also have to tie a string around the battery because it is impossible to get out of the lawnmower battery holder. Lawnmowers are not supposed to be this difficult. it has low ratings. Here is my original review: . I bought this last summer and only put it together to use this summer. i have an average size lawn. It takes four battery charges to cut the lawn. It takes an hour in between for the battery to recharge. So it takes you ALL DAY to cut your lawn with battery recharge disruptions. I can buy an expensive second battery, but it is still problematic. HERE IS THE WORST THING: IT IS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE BATTERY FROM THE LAWNMOWER TO TAKE IT OUT TO RECHARGE. plan on a solid five minutes of struggling with the battery to get it out. Plan on injured fingernails broken and bent back trying to get it out. Plan on it being painful and excruciating trying to get the battery out of the lawnmower to recharge. The manufacturer stupidly has no kind of release button to release the battery and you will struggle with it in a very narrow space trying to pull this heavy battery out with gravity against you. And if you have to go through changing the batteries four times in one lawn cut it is insane. I am already thinking about how I can unload this lawnmower on to someone with the patience to put up with all this. I will take a huge financial loss on it just to dump it. So the big issue with this mower is all about the batteries. The charge does not last (the square footage it lasts for is a joke), and the battery is excruciatingly impossible to take out of the lawnmower to recharge. And the battery takes about an hour to recharge. Even if you do buy the second battery there is the issue of trying to get the darn battery out in order to recharge it. My 34 year old son-in-law literally gave up in trying to get the battery out. He cut the lawn for the small area it worked for before the fully charged battery died, and after more than five minutes of trying to extract the battery out of the lawnmower to recharge it he gave up, looked at me and said "i'm done with this thing, it's a joke". RUN! SAVE YOURSELVES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Unfortunately, I bought this with only a handful of reviews at the time and this concern was not yet identified. I really don't know what this company was thinking with the lack of ease in which to remove the battery from the lawnmower. This is a no brainer and it never should have made it to manifacture. Let's see. I only have about 40 minutes to wait until the battery is charged again now until i can go out and cut another small section and come back in and recharge the battery.
