Great, and Addictive, Lighting
By Arthur A. on Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019
I feel I must warn you, these lights are addictive. These lights work very well and it can be tempting to put them in everything. I have Hue Smart Bulbs in my Living Room, Kitchen, and Family Room. These bulbs work best in places where the light switch might be difficult or inconvenient to reach. They are great for lamps in the corner or large rooms with lights control by multiple switches. I don't recommend them for lights controlled by switches you naturally turn on and off as you walk by; entry lights, bedrooms, laundry room. Because you need to leave the light switch on for the smart bulbs to work you don't wont someone accidentally turning them off. The light quality from the bulbs is fantastic. The dim feature has a very wide and nuanced ranged. The Hue App makes controlling all of the lights very easy. The Hue App has a fantastic feature of directly connecting to your Hue Bridge when you are on the same network. This makes controlling your lights through the app very responsive and easy. The control is near instantaneous. Hue has also made the control software for the lights open to everyone. Don't worry, no one will be able to hack your lights. To add new lights and devices you have to physically press a button on the Hue Bridge. But this means the Hue Bulbs have a ton of interconnection with other smart devices and platforms. I am able to pair my lights with my smart thermostat, smart doorbell, and home security system.

Misleading Description - NOT SUITABLE FOR RECESSED DOWNLIGHTS
By Kiku on Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2018
Bought a set of the BR30 bulbs to be installed in recessed downlights. Previously bought the A19 bulbs which have a better size for my needs, but those instructions say not to install in totally enclosed recessed fixtures. So I returned the A19's and ordered this since the manufacturer's description here says, "This BR30 LED smart flood light is designed to fit recessed cans and downlights." I sent 3 emails to Philips Hue customer support to confirm that I could install them in a recessed downlight. The website says emails will be returned in 24 to 48 hours, but my last of the 3 emails was over a week ago and they have not responded to any of them. So, before ordering these I called Philips Hue customer support and they told me that the BR30 was indeed designed to be installed in a recessed downlight. The bulbs arrived today. The back of the box says, "Not to be used in totally enclosed or recessed fixtures" which contradicts both what the manufacturer description in this listing says and what I was told on the phone by Philips Hue support. It is unfortunate, as the A19 I previously had gave a very nice light color and would be perfect if not for the fact that I could not use it in a recessed downlight. I can't speak to the quality of light that the BR30 gives off as these are going straight back to Amazon.
