Philips Hue White Smart Bulb Starter Kit (4 A19 Bulbs and 1 Bridge, Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant) Making the switch to LED bulbs in the house. Having some on the old school timers we decided to switch to some smart bulbs. Since we have a multi ecosystem house. Android, iOS, Nest and Google Home we needed something that would work across all platforms. The Philips Hue system seemed to fit the bill. Pros: 1. Works across all platforms. 2. Works with Nest so you geo fencing rules apply. 3. Homekit setup was easy. 4. White A19 lights provide a nice soft light. 5. A19 White bulbs aren't that expensive. 6. System works well. No crashes. 7. Hue Bridge is small and unobtrusive. Cons: 1. Any bulbs other than white cost a small fortune. 2. Hue App can be a pain to set up across devices. 3. More an issue with Google Home. It's integration with Hue stinks! Final thoughts. There are cheaper alternatives to the Philips Hue system. Now that we've been running this for a while we may venture out and see what's out there but overall the Hue system has been easy to set up and use. Especially given our Frankenstein house of devices! No issues or hiccups across the board. If you add a value to the ease and convenience of the setup and maintenance of the Hue system I guess it's not that far from the others at least in the white light department!

Easy to set up, useful, bulbs are warm white, not daylight

Pros: I really like being able to control these with my Dot, that's going to be handy when I have my hands full, or otherwise need to control these lights. Being able to dim them is nice too - I'm sure will be useful too. Being able to schedule them going on and off will be good too. The controls are easy to use, both in my phone and with the Dot. It was easy to get it all working together once I got the app and signed up. No more plugging and unplugging (for the attic, where I had to plug the light in before going up or could hurt myself in the dark), or having to use a dimmer slider. Also, you can add bulbs to the system without having to do much, which is really nice. I'm looking into adding some daylight ones. Cons: I do NOT like the warm white color. I prefer the daylight light, and have always looked for that in LED bulbs (used to look for it with the old incandescent ones too once I saw grow lights which were daylight lights). The warm white always looks greenish to me, and the yellow seems sickly. I'm just not fond of it. It's also harder for me to see things with the warm white. I'm hoping I can find bulbs that are compatible with this to just add to the places where I want daylight bulbs, so I can have them for reading and other things where I want better color rendition and it's easier to see things with a whiter light. Note: I should mention that color blindness runs in my family, so I may be seeing more colors than most people do because I'm female. Female relatives of color blind men sometimes see a broader range of colors compared to normal color vision. So, it may look just fine to pretty much everyone else.
