Multiple Flow switch failures
By BL G on Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2019
My IChlor 30 has been installed and in use for 11 months. After five months the flow/temp switch failed and the warranty replaced the entire unit. However, another four months and the same thing happened. They sent me a new flow/temp switch and said I would have to replace it myself. I assume the flow switch is the weak link in this unit and will go bad every few months. So far the warranty has covered the part. Also, the unit has trouble recognizing water flow from my Pentair Inteliflow pump. I have to set the pump on a high setting to get the IChlor to work. This defeats the purpose of having a variable flow pump to save energy and money. The IChlor also has trouble recognizing the salt level. It often shows low salt even when the salt level test at the pool store test good. I switched from a chlorine pool to salt last year. I did some research and thought this to be a good idea. I wish I had stayed with traditional chlorine. The problems and expense with salt is much higher than Chlorine. With salt you are still producing chlorine and during the process it significantly increases your PH level. So, you will constantly be adding Acid to lower PH. I am curious to see if Pentair will replace my flow switch when it goes bad in a few months. It will be out of the one year warranty next month. This is an update: After opening my pool for the season I discovered the flow switch intermittent. I cleaned it as described by the manual but no improvement. I lowered my rating from two stars to one star. This item is junk if used with a variable speed pump. Also, Customer service and Technical support is not very helpful or responsive. Update: May 2021. Float switch went bad again. I called for warranty replacement and was told that because I bought the Unit from Amazon that the warranty is only 6 months. I had the unit professionally installed. I still recommend you stay away from this unit. The Float switch will need replacing every year a a cost of over $70 for the part. The unit will not work well with a variable speed pump. I still need to run the pump at high RPM to get the IChlore to sense flow.
