Solid as a rock
By Steven Johnson on Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2018
I bought the SPX3500 pressure washer to replace one of another brand whose motor burned up on the second use!First of all, this unit is heavy in bulk likely due to an excellent motor and pump. The plastic housing seems very tough and is not likely to crack from use. When running it sounds very "solid" and is not terribly noisy. The assembly process was fairly simple. It's nice to have storage on the unit for both the electrical cord and the high pressure hose. It is also nice to be able to remove the high pressure hose unlike some other less expensive units. With so much weight at the bottom of the unit it is not going to tip over. There is a foot pedal in the back at the bottom the you can use as leverage to tip the unit to start it rolling - a nice little touch. The gun, wand, and high pressure hose are all upgrades from other units I have seen, especially the high pressure hose. It is not vinyl on the outside but is rubberized fabric like I had on my gas-powered washer. When using any electric pressure washer and to avoid damaging the motor, it is important to follow the start-up process to the letter as outlined in the owner's manual. This will avoid having the pump "suck air" and have it overheat. You should attach the garden hose first; follow that with the high pressure hose and attach the assembled gun/wand. Turn the water on and let it flow through until there is no air coming through with the water. Attach your nozzle of choice. Plug in the unit. You should see a red light glowing on the plug with the GFCI. Turn on the switch on the unit. The unit will run very briefly to establish pressure and then shut off. Squeeze the trigger on the gun and get to work! Detach everything when you are done and drain water from the hoses and the gun.I feel very confident in this pressure washer even after only two uses. Time will tell, but using careful procedures as outlined in the very nice owner's manual will avoid problems in the future.Addendum on March 6, 2024After using this pressure washer without issues for 6 years, I discovered a fatal flaw. As I was preparing to use it to wash winter salt and debris form my garage floor, I heard a "pop" and there was water spraying out from the high pressure hose outlet. I contacted Sun Joe and after several emails back and forth I concluded that the high pressure hose outlet adapter had developed a crack. I disassembled the washer (It was about a year past its extended warranty anyway) but could not get good access to this part. I had seen a video on YouTube showing an owner of different Sun Joe model solved this issue by cutting a hole in the cover, removing the adapter, and merely attaching the high pressure hose directly to the outlet. I did not wish to pursue this. I had a good six year run with the machine and was ready to move on to an updated one. Sun Joe Support was very cordial and responsive and offered me a 20% discount on another machine which I will plan to do later in the Spring. The Sun Joe SPX3500 is still a highly rated pressure washer and I do not fault the company for a metal part that fails from high pressure fatigue. It is still available online but I will look for a model that has easier access to the garden hose inlet and the high pressure hose outlet. I now have a spare gun and high pressure hose (still one of the best in the business wrapped with rubber coated fabric instead of vinyl) that I can use to extend my reach with the new machine. Maybe I should just buy another SPX3500 and take the time to cut a hole in the back after the warranty runs out so I can preemptively remove the adapter on the high pressure hose outlet and put the high pressure hose on a quick connect kit to avoid the inevitable metal fatigue failure in the future!! The SPX3500 is THAT good!

Conscientious and easy to use
By Tommy on Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2019
Unit wasn’t as powerful as my gas unit, I understood that. But it was way underpowered.Used it on my house siding and with the 15 degrees nozzle, it would not clean off my siding unless I got pretty close to it. Trying to clean the second floor siding took half an hour on a small part of the house and it did NOT clean well, still lots of spots and stripes, even with a sweeping and step down motion with multiple passes.Cleaning the sidewalk was ok, again, needed to be very close that made accidental sprays of dirt/mud against yourself when it hit a patch of weeds. My old power washer would easily remove weeds and grass in its way, but this unit will not, unless you put the nozzle right next to it.Good for cars with the 45 degrees nozzle. The soap nozzle was worthless. It seems like the unit did NOT kick on and it only uses the pressure from the tap water to spray foam, which only spurred out. It didn’t foam much and it didn’t go very far. A worthless feature. The 45 degrees nozzle was not strong enough to wash all dirt/grime off. I was able to point it at my foot and put it very close and it did not hurt, more like a sprayer hose on its strongest setting, which isn’t saying much. Of course, I had to hand mop the car, then spray it down. The last problem with the unit was it kept shutting down. I would have to unplug it for a few minutes for it to reset it self (?) and work. Playing with the gfic breaker switch and resetting it did not change anything. It had to be hard unplugged for a few minutes. What should have taken 10 minutes to clean a car took well over half an hour for this reason.I did not notice any leaks. However, the unit is faulty because it kept shutting off and not turning back on when I press the button to open the spray all it did was squirt a little water out from the watered pressure from the tap. Which seems like the same power the soap attachment works at. A worthless feature. There isn’t a hose roller which is ok. However, there is a top part to hold the hose on, but there isn’t a bottom part to allow you to wrap the hose up, so it’s just a dangling mess, depending how well you can wrap it up, but this is a small note, not an issue.Last point, the storage holder for the spray gun broke. There is a little clip that you have to connect the nozzle holder to and the inside clip broke, which is part of the overall units’ body. This part was really flimsily made.Overall, I am highly disappointed at the unit. Thankfully, I did use it before the warranty ran out.
