Slick Smart Switch
By Mike on Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2020
These switches are actually pretty sweet. I got em on sale for over half off which really helped. The main gripes I have are Alexa’s uses are a smidge limited as it doesn’t allow drop in on these gen switches, it has a hard time hearing the wake word more often then I’d like, and the quality of the speaker is meh at best. But honestly for all the other things it does right it’s an ace. Night light is great but is a cool white light and only has one brightness setting. The built in temp and motion sensors are great at what they are and reduce the need for remote/wireless ecobee temperature sensors. *It also has a smart on/off lighting based on motion or time of day. While there is no dimmer ability with these switches you can always just get a smart hue bulb and issue solved. Set up and pairing to the app was seamless. A few closing notes are the speaker can play music from select apps paired with your Alexa app, you can use the switch or the app or even your voice to control the light switch, and best part (for me) is the HomeKit functionality is seamless and just what I wanted. I was a nest user and while their build quality is a bit better with better materials EcoBee’s products and functionality made it worth the switch. Now if only they would make a CO2/Fire sensor my house would be Nest free lol. **Theres a high chance the switch is about to be hardware/software updated as this has been on the market for a while so don’t pay full retail and don’t be upset if it happens soon.

Light Switch with *some Alexa features
By Jason on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018
This was disappointing, I am even hesitant to give it 3 stars. Installation was easy as my house has modern wiring. I assumed it was alexa so I went to the Alexa app to set it up only to realize I had to go through the ecobee app. No big deal, it was easy to connect and get up and running. It does respond well and the speaker exceeded my expectations. The issue I have with this is that it is not a native Alexa device, the reason I bought it was to replace a dot and add automation to the switch. Sounded like a perfect fit, I even asked on a chat with ecobee if it worked the same as a dot and I was told "it is basically a mini dot in a switch". Not really, it is a 3rd party implementation of Alexa feature, which means the feature that I wanted this for was the "drop in" and "announcement" features. I contacted ecobee to see if/when it would be supported and they couldn't tell me if it would be or not.. this is the response... Details of inquiry or issue: You called in to get information on Announcement feature of the Switch+ alexa. I explained for the time being this feature is only available on proprietary alexa devices not on the third party Alexa devices. It depends on the Alexa licensing team that what features they will allow to use on third part Alexa devices. If they will allow this feature on third party devices, it will definitely be available on Switch+/Ecobee4 alexa as well. I called Alexa support to see if this was a feature available to 3rd parties. I gave up on the call as she seemed pretty confused. I am also giving up on this switch and sending it back. It lacks parity and I don't think 3rd parties should be pushing as they do - light switch with alexa, that is a pretty misleading statement. It should be - light switch with some alexa functionality. Also, the button is kinda funky to press, I wish it had better feedback when pressing.
