It works. But it takes a 3 pronged approach.

Had a bad carpenter ant infestation, I mean bad, I'm watching them climbing up and down my jasmine tree and burrowing up underneath my mulch and disappearing, fortunately, they were still outside for the most part, but they were swarming. I did my research and did a 3 pronged attack. First things first, you don't want to spray a deterrent bug spray first, that's a bad thing, all they are going to do is move to an unknown location and do tons of damage. You may think they are gone only to find out they moved to the rafters in your house. You want to use a protein-based poison like this, along with a sugar-based liquid bait and some Taurus sc mixed accordingly. The first thing I did was put this poison out in tablespoon-sized piles in 3 spots, right on the trails, close to what I suspected was the nest. They did not seem crazy about it, but I came back out at 3 am and looked on my porch and every single grain was gone, wow. I put more out right away and went back to bed, got up the next day and probably half of that was gone, so I capped it off and then sprayed the Taurus SC around the entire base of my house, making sure to get all the openings including the windows and doors, poured a half a cup of what I had left in the spray bottle where I suspected the nest was. The ants were still moving around and I saw plenty, as in hundreds, my 4' jasmine tree was covered, they climb ut the tree and down to the nest in a steady stream. That same day I put out sugar-based terra traps, they definitely were eating it, I spilled a bit on the trails and led a path to the bait. The next day I saw fewer ants, the following day, I could not find an ant anywhere.Everyone one of these poisons work on the principle of killing the nest. You must kill the queen or the nest will survive, and since the queen never leaves, they only way to truly get rid of them is to feed them a slow-acting poison that they will bring back to the nest and share. The sugar and protein is the 2 things ants eat, sometimes they want one over the other. The Taurus sc I just used because I had some leftover from when I did a termite treatment and saw it was effective on carpenter ants. Can I say this advanced poison was all I would have needed? I don't know, but I do know the ants loved it. Good luck.
