Sturdy and Excellent Functionality
By Jessica Armentrout on Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2025
I bought this based on the reviews, so I expected a lot, and I got it. This thing is a *beast*. It's heavy but very sturdy. I've been using it two or three times a week for a month now, and it does a great job, grilling or smoking. I even did a Hawaiian Kalua Pork wrapped in banana leaves, and it turned out great, almost like what I had when I lived in Hawaii. Also, Korean Bulgogi on the grill (see photos). The dampers give you great control over the heat level when smoking. I'm very impressed and would definitely recommend.

Another ALMOST great grill.
By David in SC on Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2025
Revised to 3 stars from 5. Still a good grill - cooks evenly, easy to regulate temperature HOWEVER: the ash tray and pan are a problem. The holes in the ash tray are not large enough for ash to drop to the pan. You need a brush to clear the holes after each cook. And the MAJOR issue is the ash tray. It sticks terribly and is nearly impossible to remove without a lot of force. I've ended up having to file down the retaining tab on the bottom of the tray so it doesn't hang up while trying to remove it. Still a PITA to remove the tray. Why would Oklahoma Joe design a very nice charcoal grill and make it an absolute nightmare to clear the ash? I'll buy an Expert at Walmart for half the price next time. Hard to justify paying a premium price for a grill with a serious design flaw. ***A very pleasant surprise. Ordered this grill even though I was a bit concerned that it was priced higher than most of the grills of similar size. The reviews I read were good but reviews can be deceptive sometimes. Not in this case. This grill was obviously designed by someone who ALMOST knew what they were doing. I was surprised by how heavy the package was. This grill was built with heavy gauge metal like I haven't seen used for years. It was packaged very securely. Upon opening the box I found instructions and information that made assembly far easier than I had anticipated. The instructions were in diagram form but well written and easy to understand. 30 minutes was all it took to complete. All of the nuts and bolts were pre-packaged to ensure that nothing was missing. All of the parts were properly drilled and went together very easily. It was a refreshing change from the poorly constructed mismatched parts that are found in so many items that require assembly. First cook tonight went extremely well. Trying to remove the ash tray ruined it for me. Sorry Oklahoma Joe you blew it with the ash pan and tray.
