Two individually controllable outputs, switches off the neutral wire, love the Android app
By Wayne on Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2019
I bought this to control my Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter Pump for Above Ground Pools, 10-inch, 110-120V with GFCI. Because the Kasa Smart Outdoor Plug switches both the Live and Neutral wires, the GFCI feature in the pump automatically trips when the neutral wire is disconnected when off. So I always have to manually reset the GFCI on the pump plug to turn the pump on again. Since it is already on a GFCI outlet, as well as on a GFCI breaker, I am considering replacing the GFCI plug on the pump with a standard outdoor plug. I didn't feel this constraint was worth docking a star, so I still give this product full 5 stars for execution and reliability. I had read other reviews of people using this smart plug to switch a pool or fountain pump, but they must not have a GFCI plug. The Android app is wonderful to use. It includes a scheduling feature, a timer feature (similar to the sleep timer on old alarm clock radios and TV's), and a runtime meter. I was most impressed by the scheduling option to turn on/off at sunrise and sunset - perfect for night lights. I didn't bother with Alexa integration since I often find it easier to just pick up a phone or a tablet to run the Kasa app. Alexa doesn't give a visual feedback of whether the output is currently on or off, while the app shows a comforting green circle for ON, or a grey circle for OFF. The app even shows the next scheduled time for the next action. The two outlets saved me from having to buy two smart plugs, and they each work independently. I will definitely take advantage of this feature with my holiday and yard lights in the winter. There is also a separate and sturdy rubber dust/water flap to cover each unused outlet. The only thing missing is a energy usage monitor, and it would be the perfect smart device.

Stopped working after 3 years

I guess I expected it to last longer given I used them in relatively dry areas. All three failed. Bummed! 🫤
