Why you should or should not buy this charger
By supertool on Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2019
Recently I bought the Greenworks 3 Ah L-300 and 6 Ah L-600 Elite batteries, and discovered that they would NOT recharge in my Greenworks model 29482 chargers that are used to recharge Greenworks 40 volt G-MAX batteries. They fit just fine in the charger, but it will not charge them. Instead, I had to buy this model C-220 charger, which is designed to work with Greenworks 40 volt Elite batteries. When I received the C-220 charger, the label on the the back warned that it should ONLY be used with the Greenworks Elite L-300 and L-600 batteries, and warned that "Other types of batteries may burst causing personal injury and damage." Yikes !So, if you buy either a 3 Ah L-300 or 6 Ah L-600 battery, then DO buy this C-220 charger. If you buy any other battery that is part of the G-MAX line, then DON'T buy this charger. In case you are wondering, these Elite batteries work just fine in G-MAX tools, they just won't recharge in G-MAX chargers. As to the charger itself, it works fine with the Elite batteries, which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. There is a faster model C-400 that cuts the charging times in half and costs $59.99 that can be pre-ordered on Amazon with a 1-3 month estimated shipping date.Update on 5/21/2019 - New information has come to light that you do not need to buy this charger if you already own a G-MAX model 29482 charger that is new enough to output 2.2 Amps, which is the same as this Elite charger model C-220. Older G-MAX chargers with an output of only 2 Amps are unable to recharge Elite batteries. I was able to recharge my Elite batteries in my newer G-MAX charger that has an output of 2.2 Amps. Sometime in late 2015 Greenworks made this change to their G-MAX chargers. I have posted photos of the labels on the back of my G-MAX chargers to show the difference.
