Gets the Job Done Well! Also Could be Improved
By Bryan Chan on Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2023
Overall 5/5! Despite the 4/5 for sturdiness and value. The -1 for sturdiness is because of the design of the cable at the female connector, it is prone to start detaching and potentially leaving exposed wires. I am using this extension cable daily (for over 3 weeks now). It lasted 2 weeks before I could see wires and the end of the inner sheathing...I'm only knocking -1 for this because it can honestly very easily be remedied. Run to your local hardware store, buy a roll of Scotch 88+ electrical tape. Go home, push the sheathing under the outer sheathing of the female connector, cover and secure in said tape. Done. I also opted to buy some Loctite Gel and applied that between the inner and outer sheathing before I taped it for extra durability. Cost less than $10 for both. The 4/5 for value is simply because this extension cord is F* expensive and if you are like me, you are also shelling out $500+ on a charger, and I need this and a 20 ft to make it work so price starts to add up quickly. And its odd to me that their extension cable cost almost the same as their level 2 charger (Lectron)...despite that, I don't know any other (reputable) manufacturer that produces an item like this, and the product is good, so still a 4/5 on value. Overall, if you are in the need of an extension cord for your Level 1/2 charger, feel safe knowing this thing works great, is definitely weatherproof (at least while the sheathing stays intact/fixed yourself), and the actual material itself seems very very high quality and durable. I have complaints, but at the end of the day without this thing I would not be able to charge my PHEV at home at all.

Item was not marked "Lectron" but another manufacturer and it did not have its original packaging.

Item was marked not "Lectron" but with a manufacturer not known to me, and it arrived without its original packaging or Lectron instructions. It may have been a used customer return, or simply a mistaken shipment, but I can't be certain of that and the cables are out of stock so I could not order a replacement. It seemed well made, however, but I did not want to take a chance on a manufacturer unknown to me since I wanted a genuine Lectron product.

Works great! Cable is heavy-duty.

You need a thick cable for this kind of length and power draw, and it is very heavy and thick, but it works perfectly. i've had no circuit trips or other issues. Charges my Honda Clarity PHEV in roughly two hours, at ~6kWh. Definitely recommended.
Good Extension Cable

This extension works great - just plug it in. We no longer have to park so close to our charger, so it made our charging much easier. My only comment is that the plug end of it is rather large and has a square shape to it. It could be a bit more streamlined, but that's a nit that doesn't really matter. If you could use an EV charging extension, this is a great one.

Excellent extension for plug-in hybrids!

This is an excellent extension cord for my plug-in hybrid Prius. I have an external 110 v. Electric plug outside my house, and not an expensive charging station. So I park my car more than 20’ away from the electric plug, so I ordered this extension to connect to the plug that came with my car. The combination of the two cords works great! I am able to charge my car fully in about 5 hours. The cable is very sturdy but very heavy and bulky. I keep it in the trunk of my car for easy access, but it takes up a significant amount of space in my trunk. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with my purchase.
This is a great EV extension cord!

My wife and I both have plug in hybrid electric vehicles. Mine is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe and hers is a 2022 Kia Nero. This cable works perfectly for both of them. We have a Charge Point EV charger in our parking spot and our apartment. The spot is tandem so we have to park one in front of the other as opposed to side by side. The cord for the charger was only long enough to reach the vehicle in front so we would constant have to flip flop cars to get which ever one needed to charge into the front… until we got this cable. Now with this extension EV cable we don’t have to flip flop them anymore. This makes it long enough to reach the vehicle in the back spot. We’ve had it for awhile now and not had one problem. Works just like any other extension cord you might have in your house, just bigger. First world problem solved!
Holds up to brutal environment

I charge my Tesla with this cable (using the Tesla supplied J1772 adapter). I've been using it daily for over a year. And I'm using it in a really brutal environment: Winter in Vermont. Cable is laying on the ground, unprotected. Cable is dragged across a sharp gravel stone driveway every day! The connection between my externally mounted Level2 charger and this extension cable is on the ground. Stepping on cable (but I haven't driven over it yet!). Really, it can't get much worse than how I treat this poor thing, and it's holding up. This is my EVERY DAY charging cable for my car. I was skeptical at first but I needed to get the plug to the car. It was either this, or an expensive electrician to move the L2 charger to a new location. I couldn't be happier with this extension cable.
Not Lectron

It is labeled as DUOSIDA at both ends with Lectron no where to be found. Frankly I prefer this rather than buying Chinese parts and put American labels on it. I just wish price reflected the origin. The 40 ft cable weighs 20 lbs. It is thicker than my charger cable both of which are rated at 40 Amps. If you are getting it for a specific use and shorter one would do, get the shorter one. I need it for emergency and travel where I don't know how far the dryer plug will be. I just charged at 40 Amps for two hours and nothing caught on fire. Connecting and disconnecting was OK at both ends. Quality looks OK. I will update and adjust the rating if extended use reveal any issues.
Just OK

Purchased this as an extension to our Chargepoint EV outside of our house. We have 2 hybrid cards and the extensions allows us to charge further away from the mounted unit. The only drawback I noticed to this cable, is that the charging handle itself feels cheap, not as sturdy as the one Chargepoint supplied, and often requires so wiggling to get it placed into the car properly. I wish Chargepoint made their own cable as I would have purchased directly from them. This was expensive and I'm disappointed at the quality, but options were limited. At the end of the day, it works.
Built Strong And Does The Job As Hoped

We now have an EV and a PHEV but only one 220 receptacle in the garage. I didn't want to spend $1,000+ to add a second plug closer to the new PHEV so I solved the problem with this 20' extension cord. It works perfectly and I saved a ton. We simply move the charging cord back and forth between cars as needed without ever unplugging the system from the wall.
