Was easy to install and use. Time will tell how long it lasts.

I had to replace a wall mounted hose reel from suncast. They made the new reel so cheap it broke after 2 months. I decided to try the liberty self winding reel. So far we all love it. I may replace other hose reels around home as the other reels brake.

Crude, but works
By Kodai on Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2023
This thing is VERY cheaply made, with thin, minimal plastic. The hose is also really thin and cheap, with fragile fittings. If you need to use a wrench to tighten them, then do it slowly and carefully because you can crush or warp the fittings very easily. The two biggest corners that were cut are 1. The lack of rubber seals for the fittings, so they may leak unless you have some spares. 2. No masonry screws or washers included for installing. You will need to provide your own 1/4" x 2" masonry bits and washers. Almost all other retractable hose reels provide these items for a reason. If you don't already have them, you will spend more than buying a better unit. I would have sent this back if I didn't already have these items. At least this is designed to be quickly unhooked and stored for winter with a single pivot point. I would highly recommend doing so to maximize the useful life of this thing. It's both cheap, and cheaply made. It doesn't include useful items that most competitors include. It won't survive any rough handling or extreme weather conditions like cold winters or direct sunlight for weeks on end in hot summers. However, if you have the extras I mentioned above, and install it in a shaded spot for spring/summer use then put it away for fall/winter, it's worth it's price. It's lightweight (because it's so cheap, lol), and includes a handle area for removing and installing. On a side note, it also does not include any kind of nozzle. Again, almost all retractable hose reels include one.

Half diameter as regular hose

This is not a garden hose. The diameter (3/8) is half that of a garden hose (3/4) and is intended for appliances such as washers and ice makers. This would take twice as long to water your landscaping and not clean your vehicle as well as a 3/4 discharge--completely impractical

This is an excellent product - so far

Absolutely no complaints so far. Took maybe 15 minutes to install on a treated 4x4 fence post, easy hookup to the water supply and hose reeled back in smoothly. But you do have to hold on to the hose as it retracts but all of ratchet-type devices work this way. I would HIGHLY recommend not using the included mounting screws. Go get 1/4" x 2" Stainless Steel machine screws with a socket head and SS washers. Even plated hardware will start to rust in pretty short order so avoid this by using SS.
Sturdy hose return

Hose return is very weak and it takes several attempts to get it to roll back up.. I think this will not get better.. There is no instructions on how to increase hose return retention or replace recoil spring???
Died after 6 weeks addendum 2 weeks later see below

Hose stopped retracting after 6 weeks (too late for Amazon 30 return policy). Customer service at Liberty Garden Products, to date, are shining me on. Addendum 2 weeks later. Actually Liberty Garden folks stepped up to the plate and sent me another. I took apart the old one to see what broke. The retract spring (a big robust spiral spring) broke. It appears to be a manufacturing defect in that particular spring. Anyway, I'm back in business. I would note as others have mentioned, the water from the hose, especially if it sits there awhile, comes out sudsy. Would not use this for pet water or to water a vegetable garden. Flowers, no big deal.
