GE XWFE Genuine Refrigerator Water Filter, 1pk

Well I should start off by saying, this filter does do a good job of it's primary purpose, being a water filter. It makes excellent quality water and ice. If that's all that matters to you, then stop reading here and buy the filter. But I can't in good conscious give it a 5 star rating because the manufacturer has gamed the system. On these newer GE refrigerators, the filter has an RFID tag on it, and the fridge is expcecting the replacement filter to also have this RFID tag. If you don't use the branded filter with the RFID tag, the "replace filter" light on the fridge will illuminate even if you're using a brand new filter. That limits the use of universal replacement filter and so you have to buy this expensive GE branded filter, if you don't want the "replace filter" light on the fridge to be on all the time. Thusly, I deem this filter to have a poor value for the money. I got this fridge free with my house but if it broke I'd probably get a different brand of fridge that didn't require these expensive filters. Otherwise, it's fine, the fit is good and it doesn't make any noise or anything like that.
