It’s a cleaver-shaped knife / cutter
By Grant Harlow on Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2022
First off, huge Slice fan. Got a bunch of their products (some sent for review but also some purchased with my own money - yes, I actually buy things from the companies I like). This product was an impulse click (“Slice Cleaver?! YES PLEASE”) and then a weird realization that.. I don’t really “cleave” anything. Ever. And aren’t you meant to avoid impacts / striking ceramic blades..? Hmm.HOWEVER.. it’s called a cleaver because it looks like one. But really it’s a utility knife shaped like a cleaver for ergonomic reasons. And it’s very ergonomic. The handle is short but fills my medium-glove sized hand nicely. Grip is rounded and very grippy. Smartly (and very Slice) is the integrated holder (within the grip) for the protective orange cap that slides off. There’s holes for a lanyard, which I’ll take advantage of.In use, as a knife, the grip lets you exert more force than you might normally. Not sure if I’d use it for delicate tasks (maybe straight lines but not curves or detail work) but for breaking down boxes etc it’s pretty decent.. but the design may limit it somewhat when tackling thicker / sturdier cardboard. But for regular Amazon boxes, it cuts through like a hot knife through butter. Plastic packaging / bags etc? Same. Effortless.Between this and the large retractable Slice carton cutter, this is MUCH better. Also, it feels a lot sturdier than my Slim Pen Cutter, which honestly has tolerated a lot more abuse than it should have and is still on the original blade.Speaking of blades, unlike other designs from Slice, the ENTIRE blade edge is exposed. No flipping the blade around to double its life here, its 1 and done. Replacement blades are about $20 for a 2-pack, which seems high but… did you see my comment about my older Slice tool being on the original blade? That tool is over a year old already. The blade still cuts like new.So value wise.. add up the cost of 11 steel blades and see how you feel. I think it’s worth it for the ceramic blades because I’ve for sure nicked myself on box cutters in the past and never experienced that with a Slice product.Overall.. it’s an interesting take on a box cutter / handled knife, and I’ll be using it in place of my Slim Pen Cutter and save that for lighter, more nuanced jobs.

What's this really for?
By Teresa T. on Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2022
I have tried using this several different ways, and I just don't see the value in it. On one hand, i love that it won't rust, but I also need it to cut things. It's so small and thick that everything I try to use it for feels awkward. It seems to work for some people based on the other reviews, but I really don't know how to use it that will make my life or work easier.
