One of the best

This is one of the best handheld cb radios I’ve used. It has several handy features and works great. My only 2 complaints are battery life which is only short if you use it to talk on a lot, just monitoring channels and only using it occasionally like I normally do at work it lasts over 12 hours but talking frequently cuts it down a lot. The other complaint is the antenna. It does not have a very long range for talking or receiving with the original rubber antenna. It works fine for what I use it for at work but if you want more range either get an adapter and a longer antenna or use an adapter and a mobile antenna. I bought adapters and have both. I use the HYT telescoping antenna with an adapter as well as a Wilson little wil magnet mount mobile antenna on my personal vehicle. At work I just use the rubber antenna it came with because range is not an issue as I’m close enough for it to do what I need it to do. With the other 2 antennas it has a good range up to 7 miles that I’ve talked on it. Overall it’s an excellent choice for a handheld. It takes up very little space feels very solid and high quality just like you would expect from a company like President as they used to make some of the best and still some of the most sought after radios from back in the day and this one is no exception especially with all features like AM and FM capability as well as the NOAH weather broadcasts. This also has automatic squelch control so if you don’t like the static of normal cb radios you turn on the asc feature and it cuts out almost all the static and allows you to receive only the strong clear signals near you. It’s an excellent feature in a small radio. This is perfect if you need to communicate with others for work purposes or even just to keep charged up and toss in your vehicle to monitor traffic because cb radio is still the fastest way to get traffic info and save yourself a lot of time avoiding backups and accidents. It’s even good for off-roading with buddies because it takes up so little space in even the smallest vehicles. I’ve never used a better handheld especially at this price

Factory antenna is junk, reception just ok

Compared with a bottom of the barrel CB from 1975 that I pulled out of my grandparents attic and fixed a burnt diode on, these are just ok. On several direct back to back comparisons, these are definitely not as good sounding audio, and weak signals are more staticy and harder to hear. This was using the same external antenna, screwing around for over an hour going back and forth. The stock antenna is USELESS. Which is not a big surprise given how short it is. Literally 200' away line of sight it starts to get staticy between 2 of these radios. 50' away through a house it's staticy. It's better to just yell. A full 1/4 wave CB antenna is like 10' long, obviously a portable radio won't have that, but 2' long or so would still be portable and waaaay better. If you're looking for something for camping or kids to play with, get an FRS radio that runs at higher frequency so a small antenna works well (line of sight only still). If you're looking for an emergency in-car radio for help if your car dies where you have no cell service, you basically need an external roof mounted antenna for this to be useful. Doable, but no easy off the shelf solution for non-technical people. You need: Adapter from TNC (this radio connector) to whatever your antenna cable connector is An antenna mount of some sort: Mag-mount NMO style is easiest, not perfect but still way better Either a ~10' antenna and a mount adapter (Larsen NMOQ52) or a shorter wire (like 5') and a coil to allow shorter antennas to be resonant at CB frequencies (like a Larsen NMO30BCO) A way to trim and verify antenna length to be resonant at CB frequencies - a radio nerd friend with a NanoVNA or SWR meter and some patience. I'm keeping mine, because I already had the knowledge and tools to do above shenanigans for emergency-only middle of nowhere car use. If I didn't, these woulda gone straight back. Good luck!
