Assembly is not for the faint-hearted
By Cody H on Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2024
I just came out of a long struggle with this desk. Came to see that I'm not the only one. I think the Vine people that got this desk for free are more willing to overlook the assembly issues; but for someone that paid full price $300, I'm not very satisfied. I got a table with two short cables and during the assembly I had to improvise, pulling the cables taught to get them to connect. The control box is dangling under cable tension so I attached the glue pad to a 3/4" thick wood block to give it support. Having the control box in the center makes the power adapter positioning pretty tight. And that continued to be the theme. The holes in my top rail were very difficult to line up with the legs, I had to use clamps to squeeze the rail to the motor box on the legs while I put the bolts in. Attaching the wood top to the assembled base took forever because a few holes didn't quite line up and I couldn't clamp my way out of it. I got them all started before tightening, but it was impossible. Pretty sure one went in at an angle, then stripped while tightening. Another bolt could only go in half way then acted like it was stripped, but I managed to use an impact driver with T25 bit to force it the rest of the way. Then the screws they supplied for attaching the control panel have heads that are too big for the slots, so the plastic has to bend around the screw head as you drive it in. But surprise, you don't have to drive them at all because the pre-drilled holes are same size as the screw so they push in like pegs. I'll have to drill new, smaller holes if I want the control panel to be securely fastened. I got two of these desks so I checked the second one to see if maybe it had two long cable legs but no, two short. Really not looking forward to doing this again. Edit: 2nd table was easier, the holes seemed to line up better this time and nothing stripped. Not sure if the first table's difficulty was my fault or the manufacturer. Idk how much it was intended but I guess having everything barely not line up is a good way to get it under tension. Due to all the tension in the assembly the finished table feels like a very sturdy single object. Pro tip: keep the foam cover for the wood top to use as a tablecloth. It protects the top and sides, while adding traction.
