DeWALT DXPAEV040 Level 2 40AMP Smart EV Charger

We did an extensive search for an EV Charger and eventually settled on this Level 2 by DEWALT because of its reputable name - and we have not been disappointed with our choice. The installation was a breeze (using a licensed electrician) and the charging experiences (for both our electric and hybrid vehicles) have been excellent so far! The charger has performed well with no glitches and we've made good use of its WiFi features to remotely connect and monitor our charging sessions (especially when off-peak rates are flagged). Another reason for choosing DEWALT was for safety assurances (given the risks of charging a lithium-ion battery), so we liked that this charger is CSA-certified to prevent over-voltage, over-heating, etc. Lastly, its ample 3 yr warranty and 24/7 customer support is another comfort for those making this significant investment! We checked other competitors and trust me, they were not as generous - and we would likely be stuck with an AI bot! Overall, this was a great choice and is highly recommended for your Level 2 charging needs!!!

I finally was able to get my new Dewalt EV Charger installed today, and it looks and works great! Already put my first charge on my car and so excited to have this option for easy, worry-free charging at home.

The app is not required for the unit to charge the vehicle as it is plug and play so the app conguses and it is a way to get you to provide the wifi password … I have provided 50 amps and it only ises 15 to charge the vehicle, it took less time to charge but I tought is was going to be more robust on the current output… if power is interrupted the memory goes away and it thinks that the charge is done… when it was still at 3 miles from 40

It takes my 250 vac and puts up to 46 amps 11.6kw into our Ioniq 5 but the electricians that installed it refused to read the manual and did the wires wrong and then complained about Error 7 and it not being resolved by turning the breaker off for 5s. I looked in the manual and pointed out where the color coding is and they fixed it in about 1 minute and it's been working great ever since. The app works fine too. I see another reviewer complained about not being able to use hvac in the car while it's charging mine does this just fine. I precondition the cabin in July and August, and sometimes in June and September too and again in December through February and every once in a while some ways into March or April in the mornings. I do this in a pretty tight garage that is also hvac'd too so it's not like it's trying to do anything extreme, eg 50f in the Winter and 78 in the Summers during the day and 72-75 at night(mostly to keep humidity low in there). We can turn it up or down when people are persistently in there at our own discretion.

The charger looks great, easy to install and has a few convenient features (e.g., scheduling, monitoring the usage, automatically calculate the cost of charging). I especially like the fact that you can select the amps (16-24-32-40-48 amps) during the activation/set up process. I installed the 48AMP with a 60AMP breaker. DEWALT manual and quick start guide is very helpful and easy to understand which again made the installation seamless. I love the fact that the unit is heavy duty & robust. Well-designed charger built with strong materials. If you don’t want to use the APP the unit has an LCD screen, so this is very convenient. I also had one question and contacted the customer service which they answered my call right away – this is rare these days… so 5 star for DEWALT and their EV chargers.

The manual states you cannot remote start your vehicle while plugged into this charger. If you do the device faults requiring a power cycle to reset. I worked with the manufacture and they even sent a replacement which the screen didn't work on. Nice app and design but do not buy if you actually want to preheat your car in the winter without going out to unplug it.

While DEWALT EV charger is more expensive upfront compared to Tesla's wall charger, the potential savings can be significant. My utility company, New York, offered generous incentives for both installation and charging rates. I strongly recommend checking with your local utility for similar programs. Installation on a dedicated 60 Amp circuit was smooth, allowing for a consistent 48 Amp charge. I also bought an adapter to ensure seamless charging for my Tesla, delivering the expected charging speed. The DEWALT app is user-friendly and offers essential features. What I most particularly appreciate, is the ability to set separate charging schedules for weekdays and weekends, maximizing cost-efficiency. By combining this with my Tesla's 80% charge limit, charging has become effortless. Simply plug in when you arrive home, and the charger automatically handles the rest, optimizing charging times based on my settings. It's truly a "set it and forget it" solution that guarantees the lowest charging costs. The quality is great as expected with the brand DEWALT. I had one question, and their customer service was very helpful. I strongly recommend this EV charger!!

1st charger has no communication and could not be found via phone, so had no app control. They did send a new unit, and this one works great. The scheduling in the app seems buggy so far. Hard to get it to accept the schedule I want.

It works pretty well. Pretty easy to install. My utility company offers a discount for charging at certain times (M-F 11p to 7a, weekends unlimited). I've tried lots of combinations of charging schedules and it still can't seem to get it right. Monday from midnight to 7 it won't charge, and on the weekends I have to just manually turn it on. I tried emailing their support team and got no reply.
