Who knows better than I the joy of eating outdoors? And yet, who knows better than I the tragedy of eating food off the cold hard ground? Remember, I was a nobleman before taking to the woods! At least, that's what one of my stories says. Ha ha! I'm so complex!
But truly, when I have elevenses with my men and maids, I prefer a staunch picnic table to an oddly shaped root. For one, the root can often protect a badger hole, and the only thing worse than the Sheriff of Nottingham is a buttock full of badger! And for two, it's so much more comfortable to lay your bow beside a nicely sized picnic table stocked full of weasel shank mutton and toadstool-basil jam.
Well, we can't exactly order pizza out here, can we? Say, who's up for a Thermos full of warm bark water? Mmm! Tastes like toffee! Well, how we remember toffee, anyway. We've been out here since King John, after all. The memory kind of faded around the Thatcher era.
