A Woot Classic Moment

We’re too caught up in the frenzied celebration of our 10th birthday to write about today's product. Check out this refurbi- uh, classic write-up.

Steel This Eye (February, 2007):

One time, you know? I heard about this guy in California? Or maybe it was Oklahoma? California, Oklahoma, one of those states out there – this guy was working on a construction site as a construction worker, you know? And he was up on a ladder and he fell off the ladder? And he had a drill and it was a giant drill and he tried to throw the drill away so it wouldn’t fall on him but he couldn’t throw it very far away because it was a giant drill? And it totally fell right into his eye! The pointy part of the drill went right into his eye! Seriously! It totally went past his brain and right out the other side of his skull! And he was totally fine! For real! I saw it on Inside Edition and then again on Good Morning America! Seriously for real – right into his eye!

You’re not supposed to put drills in your eye. And you’re not supposed to put lasers in your eye. But you can if you have a Steel Eye. Not a real steel eye in your head – a Steel Eye Radar Detector in your car. When somebody points a laser at this eye, it doesn’t fry up and break its retinas or whatever. It just warns you with sounds and lights that somebody’s trying to catch you with a laser or a radar. And it works with all kinds of laser and radar like X, K, and Superwide Ka, and totally hides from the people trying to catch you with VG-2 stuff. I mean, yeah, by the time the laser hits you you might already get caught, but that's not the eye's fault. The Steel Eye Radar Detector is just like that guy from California or Oklahoma. Except if you put a drill through it, that would break it, probably. I guess.

But as the Acer Aspire 9800 continues its quest for the all-time laptop performance record this season, some observers think that the notebook’s reputation is permanently tainted.

"Sure, some people will get excited about watching HD-DVDs on the 9800, or watching TV with its integrated tuner, or browsing the web with its 802.11g wireless capability," says Filliams. "But as far as I’m concerned, all of those gaudy accomplishments are meaningless. I’m convinced they all took place against the rules, outside the law, out of bond- er, bounds."

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk. We don't recommend you base your self-worth on how often we feature your comments, but we don't expressly forbid it either.
